Regina Silvers: Artist's Statement

regina
My large canvases and works on paper evolve from small, on-the-scene drawings and watercolor sketches; the Mink Hollow series, from more than fifteen years of walking and hiking in the Catskill mountains, the Dorland/Canyon series, from a month's stay in the high desert of Temecula, California.

My work has always been based on the natural world; its landscape, and people--and contains within it many of the artistic expressions of the twentieth century that have impressed and influenced me, as well as my own delight in drawing from nature and the figure. While I most admire the abstract nature of painting, I retain the essential forms of the subject matter in my own work-heightening the colors, narrowing the focus, and strengthening the dynamics of what I see and experience.
